FIRST SHOW OF THE SEASON!

5/13/2015

Today I performed my brand new show, "Hits and Bits of the Sullivan Show" for the first time.  It went great and I had so much fun!

Today was the beginning of my FIFTEENTH SEASON doing matinee dinner shows at Tillman's Village Inn.  Buddy and I began entertaining bus group tours there in the year 2000. I am so grateful to still be enjoying this summertime aspect of my entertainment business.

Tomorrow, I will do it again for two more bus loads of day trippers.   I hope they have a good time!
 I'll keep ya posted.

It has finally turned green around here!  Yay!  And not only green but PINK.  Dad's ornamental flowering crabapple tree just busted out all over today.  It's crazy full of blossoms.
Spring is Good!

SPRING ANYONE?

So here I am in Florida, preparing yet again to leave and travel back to New York.  How very modern and jet-setty of me.

Actually, this time I will be driving, so there is much to do this week to organize and pack.  (Always such a delight.)

I have performed three shows here in Florida over the course of the last three weeks and I am so pleased and grateful for the wonderful attendance and response, especially considering that Easter was in the middle of it all and that usually affects attendance.  But I am happy to report three very successful shows, including one with my good friend Jimmy Mazz. ("Tribute to Bobby Darin and Connie Francis".)  My brother and sister-in-law were visiting me and able to come to that one.  Cool.

And now I am gearing up for my summer schedule of entertaining traveling tour groups at matinee dinner shows at Tillman's Village Inn in Albion, NY.  I have several motorcoach groups lined up and I'm having fun putting the finishing touches on my new show for this season, "Hits and Bits of the Sullivan Show".  In fact, that's what I should be doing RIGHT NOW, so I will sign off for now and wish everyone good weather and good times, wherever you reside.

Peace and Blessings to all.
I'll  keep ya posted.

Bad Blogger

Well it's pretty obvious I'm a bad blogger!  I have not kept up with this page and maybe I should just give up!  But I will give myself one more chance.

After spending the worst February in recent history (weather wise) in Western New York, I am SO ready for spring!  And it's beginning to feel like it - FINALLY.

But very soon I will be returning to Florida for about a month to do a few shows and reconnect with friends and family there.  I must admit I have been looking longingly at the photo of palm trees and blue water on my cell phone screen.

On Monday, March 30 I will return to Visani Dinner Theater in Port Charlotte to perform my show 'It's My Party - The Fabulous 50's and 60's!"  Always a joyous evening of musical memories and laughter.

I am currently working on my new show for this year called "Hits and Bits of the Sullivan Show". When I get into creative mode I lock myself away and focus on new and entertaining ways to bring music and memories to my audiences.  I plan to roll out the new show in May when I begin my summer season of entertaining bus tour groups in New York state.  I keep trying to set the bar higher and higher, so the race is on to try and top last year's show.  No pressure!

I am also beginning an important new journey working with nursing homes to bring personalized iPods to elders with special needs, particularly Alzheimer's and dementia. The iPods contain customized playlists of songs that have personal meaning to the elder.  The effect of this 'music therapy' is more than wonderful, reawakening people for awhile and putting them back in touch with who they are.  That's a nutshell statement that doesn't even come close to the whole story, but I am enthralled with this project and even though I don't really know what I'm doing, I'm doing it!  With help from God and many resources I will depend on.

I send blessings to you all.  Please do the same for me.
And I'll keep ya posted.

Wait Wasn't I Just Here?

So this is how time flies.  My last blog entry said I was newly arrived back in Florida.  And now I'm here to say I'm back in New York already!

I was blessed to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with family here in New York.  (We figured out that it has been literally DECADES since I was here for Thanksgiving.)  So much to be thankful for, including a smooth travel experience with my flight up here, and dear friends and family members who graciously transported me to and from the airports.

So now I am preparing for a few upcoming shows this week, including two days of matinee shows called "Country Gospel and Christmas Fun" at the Ohmann Theater in Lyons, New York where I will share the stage with the very talented Josie Waverly and her trio, and Miss Lulu Roman of Hee Haw fame.  This should be interesting!

Then on Saturday I will perform my own Christmas Holiday Show at The Cabaret at Studio B in Albion.  I look forward to the chance to sing those beloved holiday favorites.

Then it's time to relax for awhile and just enjoy the holiday season in my home town with family and friends.  Just last night my friend Chris and I drove to the next town over to see fireworks and a Parade of Lights.  It was downright Norman Rockwellian to see the streets lined with local folks in hats and scarves, cheering and clapping for brightly lit floats representing local organizations and businesses gliding down Main Street.  (Never mind that back in Florida folks in shorts and t-shirts will be lining the intracoastal waterway to cheer brightly lit boats passing by in their holiday boat parade! )

So have a blessed December everyone.  Count each and every good gift and blessing each and every day. God is so good.

I'll keep ya posted.

Back in the Southern Swing

I want to thank God for a safe and thoroughly enjoyable trip back to Florida.  I forgot how really nice the weather can be down here.  Look at those palm trees sway.  Nice.

I have done my first two shows of the Florida season and I enjoyed both so much,  Great to see long-standing friends and supporters (I hate to say "fans".  I'm so modest. :-)

But the truth is, I DO  have a fan club, and they were out in full uniform on Tuesday night at Visani Dinner Theater, wearing their official Marcy Diva T-shirts with a picture of my face on the front!  Wow.  What's that song, 'O Lord It's Hard to Be Humble'?  But I am truly humbled by their love and support and I thank you, my dear friends for always being there for me.

And my first night back at Turtles Waterfront Restaurant was a blast.  I must admit, I enjoy the relaxed and informal nature of just simply singing the songs once a week.  Don't get me wrong, I do love performing my cabaret show with the comedy and the pizazz, but it's also nice to sit on a stool and sing my favorite songs for an intimate crowd. I am blessed to be able to do both.

So on I go.  Grateful for every day, and every opportunity to reach out to people and see them smile.

I'll keep ya posted.

HEADING SOUTH

10/23/2014

'On the Road Again...."  that song is circling my brain as I pack and get ready to leave for Florida.  Today is bright and sunny on this colorful October morn and even though it's a lot colder than I care for, there is beauty in the scene outside my frosty window.  I imagine the drive South will be full of color and breathtaking views.

October has been a whirlwind of activity.  My good friend and sometimes-singing-partner Jimmy Mazz came to my neck of the woods here in Western NY to do three 'Dream Lovers' shows with me last week. (Our Bobby Darin and Connie Francis tribute show).  And on Friday night he performed his own Las Vegas Legends show at The Cabaret at Studio B here in town.  I had the great pleasure of singing some of our duets with him during that show.

Since then I have been preparing for the trip South.  I will be in Florida for four weeks, then back here in NY in time for Thanksgiving and the whole Holiday Season right through New Year's.  (Yes, my friends I will be COLD.  But family is everything.)

Please pray for safe driving, not only for me, but for all who are on the road.

Blessings to all.

I'll keep ya posted.

Last Sunday's Church Concert

9/9/2014

I am so glad to say that our church concert on Sunday went just great.  My cousin David Hollenbeck, who performed classical, traditional, and jazz pieces on tenor and bass trombones and tuba, was just fabulous. And he was accompanied so ably and skillfully on piano by Joe Kwiatkowski.  I was so proud of them.

And I thank God (quite literally) that my voice was strong and confident, singing praise and thanks to my God.

Here is a sample of one of the songs, recorded live Sunday night.  How Great Thou Art

Dad was GREAT in Variety Show!

Just had to report that my dad got a long standing ovation after performing on the tenor saxophone during last Friday's Variety Show at the Cabaret at Studio B in Albion, NY.  I was so proud I cried.  And our whole family was there to watch him.  What a moment.  At 95, he is still playing his horn, and playing it great!  He sounded wonderful.

I am so grateful for that opportunity to see him receive such recognition and applause.  Wow.

I also performed in the show, singing one of his songs with him, and also doing a singing and dancing duet with my dear friend Amy Sidari (owner of the Cabaret), as well as a duet with the fabulous Gary Simboli --voice like no other -- and I even did my Marge the Red Hat Lady routine.

Since I had time for a full costume change, I got myself a purple dress, a few sizes too large, and stuffed a size 40D bra under it, along with some tummy padding.  What fun.  The audience had a good time!

DAD AND I PERFORM TOGETHER!

8/14/2014

PictureMe, Dad, Amy and Gary rehearsing for the show.
My dad and I will both be appearing tomorrow night in a Cabaret Variety Show.  He will be playing the saxophone for three numbers, and I will join him in singing one of them: his favorite song, "Stardust".  He's also planning to play "All of Me", and "On the Sunny Side of the Street".

Have I mentioned that my dad is 95?  This is so cool.  Dad used to play most every weekend in small combos when I was growing up.  (And way before that too!)  He hasn't played in clubs for years, but still plays for his own enjoyment (and mine) at home, playing along with CD's and videos of music specials.  (He loves to say, "I'm used to playing with Benny Goodman, ya know.") So when my friend Amy, owner of the Cabaret at Studio B, asked him to perform in her next variety show, I was surprised when he agreed.  But delighted!

The photo above appeared in the newspaper today, along with a really nice article.  You can click this link to read it. (It may ask you to answer a couple of survey questions to read the whole article.  No biggie.)
