I am currently preparing for a very special evening on Sunday, Sept. 8. I am taking part in a concert at my own church in Albion, along with two other church members who are very talented musicians. (The fact that one of them is my second cousin is in no way influencing my opinion :-)
We are calling it 'From Gospel to Classical....and Beyond'. I will be singing songs of praise, gospel standards, contemporary Christian songs, and a few traditional hymns. This has been a dream of mine, and a plan that has been taking root in my heart for some time. This first concert is just the kick start I needed.
David Hollenbeck (the aforementioned cousin) is a recent graduate of Fredonia University school of music, and will be playing solo on a variety of brass instruments. He says his selections are mostly classical, and some lean more to jazz.
Joe Kwiatkowski will be at the piano, accompanying, and I hope he will agree to also be featured on at least one solo number.
The concert is September 8th, at 7 pm.
Gaines Congregational United Church of Christ, 14023 Ridge Rd, Albion, NY (near intersection of Rt 279)
All are welcome. Freewill offering will be taken. Refreshments to follow.
