New York in Summer

8/8/2014

I have sure been enjoying summertime in Western New York.  Lots of shows to keep me busy, and lots of good times with family and friends.

Sunshine, green trees, fields of corn, cherry orchards, apple orchards, country roads, The Lake Ontario shore just up the road apiece.  What's not to like? And right now I'm enjoying some time off, with a very light schedule of shows over the next couple of months.

I also just returned from a lovely trip to New Hampshire visiting my sister-in-law and enjoying all that good New England scenery. (Also a wonderful dinner of Baked Stuffed Haddock on the waterfront at Rye Beach.  That's livin'.)

I am glad and grateful to say that my Florida schedule is shaping up very nicely for the fall/winter season of 2014-2015  and I have just updated the schedule page of this web site to add all the 2015 performance dates.

I'm also preparing for the second annual Gospel  Concert at my church here in September, so it turns out I actually have lots to do during my 'time off' now! Practice practice practice.

Loving thoughts to all of you!
I'll keep ya posted.

Things Are Swell

Just a quick note to report that I am enjoying Western New York and I've been busy with matinee shows for group tours and many other endeavors, including my sold out show at The Cabaret at Studio B on May 31. Didn't realize how long it's been since I logged in here.  I think that must be a good sign that things are swell!

I'm also looking forward to my evening dinner show at Tillman's Village Inn on July 11, my first evening show of the season at that location.  (Although that is where I have been performing my daytime matinee shows.)

Then the following night, on July 12, I am pleased and proud to make a special guest appearance in The Cabaret Variety Show at the Cabaret at Studio B in Albion.  Oh my goodness it's going to be a hoot!  Miss Amy Sidari, owner of the Cabaret and Gotta Dance Studio is producing a blast-from-the-past type variety show like we used to watch on TV.  (Think Dean Martin Variety Show, Carol Burnett, Johnny Carson Show).  Lots of skits and lots of laughs, along with dance numbers, musical numbers and even live 'commercials'.  Amy's main purpose in putting on this show is LAUGHTER.  She has rightly observed that we need laughter to keep us afloat and she's going for laughs in a big way.  You go girl!

So take care everyone!  I am sending blessings to you all.
And I'll keep ya posted.

Back in New York

I am so grateful for a safe and enjoyable trip from Florida to New York and so happy to be here among family and friends.  I have been settling in for two weeks and now I'm ready to begin my shows here.  I have several matinee shows lined up and some evening shows as well.  I will be introducing my new show, "It's My Party - The Fabulous 50's and 60's!" to my New York audiences and looking forward to sharing musical memories with the songs and laughter.

I've been enjoying watching the trees grow leaves before my very eyes since I arrived.  Looking out my second floor bedroom window, I have a bird's-eye view of nature having its way with buds and blossoms and leaves.  It still fascinates me.  Here is a photo of Dad's flowering quince which has blossomed since I got here.

Okay, so enough with the nature study.  It's just so pretty ;-)

So I'll let you know how things are going.  I thank God every day for all He is doing in my life.

I'll keep ya posted.

LAST NIGHT AT TURTLES

Last night was a wonderful send-off for me.  SO MANY friends came to share my last night of the season at Turtles Waterfront Restaurant. I had a ball.  (And I only had one glass of wine.  Honest!)

Many thanks to all the wonderful smiling people who have been coming on Wednesdays to listen to my songs and share their friendship with me.

And thank you to Turtles and all its staff for helping me in every way, and making me feel like a member of the family there.  I will miss you all during the summer.

BUT GOOD NEWS.....It's official that I WILL RETURN TO TURTLES IN NOVEMBER when I get back from New York.
I  am very happy about that, so last night was not goodbye, just 'see ya later'!

I am headed for New York this weekend so please say a prayer for safe trip.  Thank you so much!

Fun On the Radio

4/13/2014

I had some fun this morning.  My dear friend Amy - who owns the Cabaret at Studio B in Albion, NY - was co-hosting a radio talk show called 'The Home Repair Clinic' on WHAM radio in Rochester.  The show is hosted by Jim Salmon (pronounced like the fish) and his colleague, Doug Bower.  (Remember those names, they'll come into play in the audio clip.)  Today, all three co-hosts had as their guest a man who  talked about an upcoming annual wine competition and dinner to benefit a wonderful charity called Camp Good Days. This man brought various bottles of wine with him for the whole bunch to sample.

I have iHeart Radio on my phone, so I was able to listen as they got sillier and sillier.  They clearly were enjoying themselves.
So I decided to join in the fun:  It's a call-in show, so I decided to call in.  As Ernestine the telephone operator.  Here's how it went:  Give a listen to the audio clip below.

I have been having a ball performing my new 50's and 60's show!  And everyone seems to feel the same.  Audiences are singing along, clapping, laughing and it really does feel like a party!  So many memories tied up in these songs and stories.  So much fun.  I'm so glad I've had a chance to perform it three times in the last couple weeks to really get it polished up and get comfortable with it. Thank you to all who have attended the new show and given me so much support and great response.

Next up is my other show, "Here's To The Divas and Dames" at the Englewood Elks on Saturday, April 5.
See the home page of my web site for details and how to purchase tickets.

I cannot believe it's the end of March.  What the heck?  It was just March 1st a minute ago!
Four more weeks and I head back to New York for the summer.  I sure hope it stops snowing by then.  The way it's going, it might not!

I'll keep ya posted.

Just Sayin Hey

I haven't posted anything lately, so I just thought I'd check in and say things are going along just fine.  I'm  still really enjoying my nights are Turtles Restaurant.  ( I am awaiting word whether it will continue into March.)  I've been in rehearsal with my new show, "It's My Party ~ the Fabulous 50's and 60's".  SO much great music to choose from, it's hard to narrow it down to one show's worth. And here we are in the last half of February already.  Seems like just yesterday I was stranded in New York in a blizzard!

I have begun to take steps toward presenting a Gospel Concert.  This is something I have felt I wanted to do for a long time, and I think the time is now.  If anyone goes to a church that might be interested in me doing a Gospel Concert, please have someone contact me either my phone or email.  My contact information
is on the Schedule/Contact page of this web site.

Many thanks to all of you for supporting me and visiting my web site.

I'll keep ya posted.

Back In Florida

PictureSand dunes and Gulf waters at Seaplace.
Finally got back to Florida last Friday night.  Even after the snowstorm cancellations and rescheduled flight, I STILL had to buy yet another ticket on a different airline because of further airline delays that day.  Sheesh.  But all is well.  Refunds are on the way, and I made it!

I enjoyed my first night back at Turtles restaurant on Tuesday and I continue to look forward to seeing so many old friends. I don't know yet whether my weekly performances at Turtles will continue in February, but I hope so.  I really enjoy it.

Last night I performed my Divas and Dames show at Seaplace  clubhouse on Longboat Key in Florida.  What a fun night.  The social committee told me this was an 'experiment' because they've never presented a show before, only dances.  So they weren't sure how it would be received.  But it was sold out and the audience was great!  And talk about location, location, location!  The whole community is Gulf Front, and the clubhouse itself is right on the beachfront.  Wow.  When I pulled up to the clubhouse and got out of the car, I heard that soothing healing sound of the surf RIGHT THERE in front of me.  Oh my.

The photo above doesn't do it justice because it was cloudy, but that's looking toward the Gulf, with some sand dunes in the middle and the water just beyond.  I took the picture from the front door of the clubhouse.  Quite a difference from the snow picture I showed you in my last post from New York!

So onward I go.  I appreciate all the good wishes and prayers for my safe return.

I'll keep ya posted.

SNOWBOUND!

Well I was supposed to be back in Florida by now.  But you can't fight Mother Nature!  My flight out of Buffalo was cancelled last night and now the reservations are so backed up I won't be flying until Friday.

Unfortunately I had to miss my first night back at Turtles tonight.  But it was out of my control.  And since it simply is what it is,  I'm considering it a gift to spend a few additional days with my Dad and family.

I took this photo from my upstairs window a couple days ago at dawn.  The photo doesn't do the brilliant pink sky justice, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

So here I am in subzero temperatures.  But all is well and I thank God for safety and many blessings along the way!
